For Current and Prospective Parents of Cal Poly SLO Students

Kids and all family members are welcome to chime in! I just thought this would be a great place to post our struggles and continue to encourage each other.

I’ll start by saying that my daughter is still waiting to hear from SLO. Her major is Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration (RPTA).

My son is still waiting for Software Engineering. Applied ED and deferred to RD. Has 1 friend accepted ED for Civil Engineering and 1 friend accepted RD for Mechanical Engineering (not planning to attend/waiting for UC’s). He knows of 4 other students at his High School whom are still waiting.

@CDSMOM - I have to give you a high five for your extremely gracious response to minicooper3’s post (which I feel was reasonable and respectful). On last year’s thread, something similar occurred and the parents jumped all over the kids who complained! Your response and alternative thread was classy all the way. It’s too bad SLO doesn’t take into account personal character, because if your daughter is anything like you, she’d be admitted in a heartbeat! Best of luck to her!

My son was admitted last week, for Environmental Studies. He is still waiting to hear from UCSC, but I hope he picks SLO!

@CDSMOM - I agree with @socalmom23 wholeheartedly. Thanks so much for starting this thread. The last thing I want to do as a parent is make this whole college acceptance process more stressful than it has to be for the kids.

My daughter is still waiting to hear from SLO. Her major is Kinesiology. She applied ED but was deferred to RD. From what I can gather from the other thread, there are quite a few Kinesiology majors and their parents waiting to hear some good news!

Thanks everyone! I’m glad so many parents have posted here!

My daughter was disappointed not to get into SDSU, but her number one has always been Cal Poly. I’m hoping and praying for an acceptance or at least a wait list!!

I should also mention my D applied for ED and was referred to RD.

HI friends, I was not feeling as friendly as you@ CDSMOM, I was really sad to kicked off. I felt like most of the students in our forum were feeling supported. And our willingness to call admissions and post our findings. Oh well!! I want the best for each of these kids and hope they all find a place at CP or another college.
Glad to be here and still in touch with you all.
Daughter is still waiting for RPTA.

@joyful1, I wish I could say my post was completely genuine, but my daughter heard my initial reaction! It was her encouragement that led me to start this alternative thread. Oh boy, did I have a different reaction in mind!!!

My son applied as a Materials Engineer Freshman at SLO.
Admitted to CPP, LB & SJSU. Waiting on SLO, UCD, UCSB, UCI and UCR - Chemical Engineering. He did not apply to any schools in San Diego for some reason.

So many talented kids admitted into great schools! I’m worried about my girl. She has every hope and dream attached to Cal Poly.

I know what you mean @CDSMOM
This wait is emotionally hard. My daughter just wants to know either way. She said if it’s a no then they just need to tell her already! Cal Poly really is her dream school. Every day that goes by and she sees no change on her portal she seems to be a bit more deflated. It’s not easy to see as a parent.

My daughter did get accepted to SDSU, but because we are local to San Diego it is her safety school. If she does go to SDSU she will live at home for the first year to save money (we live about 10 min from campus). My husband and I wouldn’t mind having her around for another year! However, she really sees herself going away to school. She wants to live in the dorms and have a real college experience.

@navy71, I completely understand. My daughter has an opportunity to go to a local 4 year, but she prefers to be farther away! I can’t blame her. Our oldest attends Humboldt and has thoroughly enjoyed the 4 year college experience. ugh!!

@CDSMOM, well thanks for the honesty! I was thinking I was the only one a little put off.
At this point we just want to know, we hope for yes, but if its no…let her know so she can start the process of letting this dream go, give it time to settle in and get to the task of picking her college. I get CP is a reach for her, but why not reach!! I have a few words for the office of admissions on this process…so hard on these kids.
It seems simple to me yes-no or wait-list, which may be as bad as this process!!

Friend’s daughter accepted sometime last night for environmental studies. Not sure on her stats…only that SAT was in the 1600-1700 range and a few honors/AP courses.

Good to know some acceptances are still going out!

Two of DSs friends have heard but he hasn’t. It is a rough way to let these kids (and us parents) know.

Applicants are starting to get waitlisted, which is making me nervous! Still no determination for my daughter…
