Early decision to NYU, good or bad idea?

NYU Steinhardt is my dream school and I'm jumping through hoops trying to show how devoted I am to this school. However, I'm a bit nervous about applying for ED because of the financial issue, what if I'm accepted and won't be able to afford it? I calculated how much I would have to pay with financial aid and it's around 20 grand so it doesn't sound too bad but I thought I could get some feedback from others, preferably from upperclassmen/alumni who had applied to NYU through ED.

I have a 4.0 GPA and a super score of 2000 on my SAT. I didn't take any other tests, but I have community service hours and a job teaching children. I am also starting a club in my school, and planning to do weekend workshops at NYU.

Thank you in advance! :)

20 grand doesn’t sound too bad to you, but you cannot borrow any of it. have you talked to your parents about its costs and what are they willing to guarantee you each year? There’s no sense wasting an ED on a school you can’t afford :stuck_out_tongue:

Start looking at some other schools, too.

Assuming you plan on going into teaching, spending Big Bucks on NYU isn’t going to get you any higher salary than a degree from Big State U, especially if you’re talking about paying back the money yourself. It might be your dream school, but financially, it might be a nightmare.

If you were talking about $20K total over 4 years and were willing to do what it takes to qualify for loan forgiveness for teachers, then it might be worth pursuing.

Was that $20K number from running the NYU Net Price Calculator?
