Early Decision to U of Rochester 2013

By the end of Junior Year:
Unweighted GPA- 3.56 (had a lot of AP and honors classes)
Weighted GPA- 4.6
Rank - top 10%?

my school is very competitive, and goes on a 7 point scale when grading.

ACT: as of now 28- but took it again in june.... hoping for in the 30 range

Junior year i took almost all AP's
-AP Calculus AB (Got B)
-AP Calculus BC (Got B)
-AP Environmental Science (Got C) :( idk what happened there....(bad teacher)
-AP English III (Got B) (hard teacher)
-AP US History (Got C) always suck at history
-AP Physics (Got B)
plus
-Physics Honors (Got B)
-Chemistry Honors (Got B)
-Pre Calculus (Got A)

the teachers in my school barely give A's in ap classes, how do i say this to the admissions?

13 total AP classes b4 graduation.
Junior year were my first B's and those dreadful Cs. (never got C's in my life)

Sophomore and Freshman Year- i had unweighted GPA of 3.75 ( went down because of the hard classes this year how will this impact my chances)

I Have tons EC:
-President of two clubs
-Volunteer (300+) at hospital
-Dedicated member of 7 clubs (math, key club)
-DECA participant
-District level in tennis
-District level in Swimming

I can write a lot for my EC.

Will get good-excellent teacher recommendations.

i want to do a major in (science: biology/chemistry) money is not a big issue.

i wanted to go to rochester soo bad from a very young age. dad used to work there. Now i live in NC (in a very hard distict) if that makes any difference. I am also an Indian citizen....but moved to USA in 3rd grade.

U Rochester ED: High match

I think you stand a very, very good shot ED, especially if you get the ACT up to 30. Your rigorous academic schedule (despite the effect it had on your average) and clear interest in the school are both appealing.

I wouldn’t apply expecting much in terms of merit aid though. But you never know.

I would say somewhere between low match and match

Urochester recalculates GPAs based on course rigor. Given your schedule, expect for yours to be significantly higher than your school GPA, maybe even a 3.8-3.9 or so. I’d say low match. Good luck!

thanks definitely an encouragement!

Doing well on the corresponding AP tests may help also.

U Rochester ED: Match

I agree, high match to match. You’re definitely a great applicant and think you could get in ED, great chance by showing interest in that way.
