Early Decision?

I'm debating which school to apply early decision to. I'm thinking about maybe majoring in physics, and Williams College is known for its astrophysics program. I read in a Princeton Review Best Colleges book that the ED admission rate is about 40%. I am also considering Bowdoin College, which has an ED admission rate of about 20%. Do my chances really go up if I apply early decision? For those who know Bowdoin and Williams, which is a better school for physics/astrophysics? Help >.<! I'm starting on college applications and I really want to be set before October and November roll around. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Well you can’t go wrong with either school and you should apply early decision based on how fit you feel you are in a school and whether it is your clear top choice (and affordable). Not which school you would have the best chance at with early decision.

Applying early decision will definitely give you an advantage for admissions. Colleges like to know who they expect to see next fall, and it also helps them achieve their yield goals. Early Decision acceptance rates are usually higher for these reasons. But like cortana said, apply to which ever school fits you the best, and if you are confident you would want to attend that school, apply ED. If you cant decide, it would be best to apply RD and make up your mind later.

Both of the previous comments are correct. Pay special attention to the affordability of the colleges. Other than that, I would recommend you apply to the one you like more! They are both very, very good schools, so at that level you shouldn’t worry about which has the better program and just focus on which you LIKE more.

By the way, I was just watching slumdog millionaire… Isn’t that actors name Dev Patel?

Thanks, all! This is very helpful! And yes, Lehigh, Dev Patel is my favorite actor (that’s not my name) :)

Ah I see! I was thinking “wow, is that a common name?” Haha…

Best of luck,
