early decision

what are the requirements for a student who appiled early decision..
i have a 2.4 and a 21 on ACT any chance?

You applied to UB or to Buffalo State? I’m afraid your gpa and test scores seem very low for UB…did you apply under EOP? If not, I hope you have other options in mind and apps ready to go…

i applied to ub u dont even think ed i dont have a chance
yeah i sent out many other appilcations but buffalo is my first choice

what about the SAT? did you take that?

no sat only act what do u think

I don’t think ED gives students as much of a boost as you may think…UB gets thousands of apps every year and less than 5% of their freshman class had a gpa below 2.5. I’m guessing those that did were almost entirely EOP applicants and recruited athletes.

That does not mean you’ll never be accepted though! My advice would be to do very well at another college and then reapply to UB after you have accumulated 30 credit hours. At that point, your HS gpa and test scores won’t be a factor.

Let us know when you get your results…

i think you have a decent shot, it also depends heavily on the major you chose and your college essay, when you look on collegeboard under the “At a glance” tab you can see that 29% of highschool students had a gpa of 3.25-3.49, but 21% which is the second highest had a 2.5-2.99 h.s gpa, My counselor told me to apply early this year due to the fact that most SUNY schools want to fill their quota early, and also out of 504 applications for early decision last year 362 were accepted so thats more than half! In my opinion applying ED this year has an extra boost because of the current state of the economy, but best of luck!

I think your counselor was making a rather broad statement - the current economy has meant a boon for applications and enrollment at the SUNY schools. It is true that some of the smaller SUNY’s typically have spots left to fill after May 1st - ie. Canton, Brockport, Buff State, etc. UB is not generally in that position and they have a waitlist that they draw from as well…nor is Binghamton, Stony Brook, or Geneseo. The ED numbers you’re looking at may be giving a false impression of higher acceptances because ED applicants usually include recruited athletes and candidates who are looking for the highest merit awards, which have a December cutoff.
