Hello everyone, I apologize for the length of my discussion, but I believe one should have all the facts (or almost all of them) In order to answer questions that are posed. So thank you for taking the time to answer my ramblings. Happy reading !
I plan on graduating early, I will have all my credits for the graduation requirements (and most college requirements), and will have taken 4 full years of all the basic courses (math, english, science, language, and history) I have done multiple after school activities, and my grade point average is quite good. Getting into college is not my concern (not meaning to sound snobby, I understand how hard the college application process is) I will include the activities at the bottom for those of you who wish to see them in order to answer my questions.
I’ve wanted to graduate early for quite some time, and have taken on a huge workload in order to make sure I could do it. I have taken some courses online, and some over the summer. While balancing my own responsibilities at home, and after school. I am not graduating early due to family issues, I am leaving because I personally can’t stand the high school environment, and before some of you say “stay and experience the senior year life” I have, I spent my entire freshman year partying with seniors, and it is a time I do not want to repeat- I want to leave this school, and go to college- not stick around and party/slack off. That being said, I also do not want to have an entire year of just waiting around, or working. I want to go straight to college and miss no time- so if that is not an option- I would rather stay in high school and graduate with the rest of my class. All my teachers, my parents, and my guidance councilor are behind me 100%, I just have a few questions before I finalize my decision.
[Note that; My school does not allow you to graduate at the end of Junior year, you must complete half a semester of Senior year before leaving so they can make sure it is what you still want.]
[Also note: That I am a sophomore, and I wish to go into the medical field. More specifically I want to be a Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, which means I want to study in the premed program at the school I get into.]
That being said, here are my questions:
-When would I apply to colleges? During the time when other people do early decision?
-Would the colleges allow me to start in January, instead of the very beginning of the school year?
-Do college admission officers frown upon starting later?
-Would my application be dampened by the fact that I’m a grade younger? (Age wise I would be the same age as everyone else seeing as I missed the cut off and am older than my current class)
-Would I be able to apply to Ivy Leagues such as Brown, or Penn?
-Would I be denied the option of a scholarship, or money from the school because I am coming later?
-Do you personally think I should be doing anything else in order to secure my acceptance to an Ivy League? (any recommendations?)
