Early Reports USNews Best Colleges 2009

Well, yeah, but there are a significant number of people who would consider applying to Princeton, Berkeley, and Michigan. For them, the comparison makes sense. But who's considering the relative academic stature of Caltech, Michigan, and West Point?

Not sure that having a football team makes a university well rounded - last I checked, most football teams were largely male :)

Many of the folks on the offensive line are very round.

You might be surprised. Look over the some of the motley lists that kids posting on CC commonly put together and you can find groupings even more curious than that.

Yeah, but (and I'm arguing just for the heck of it) doesn't that argue for putting the universities and the LACs on the same list?

That's what Forbes did, and since they are all for undergraduate education, it is much more sensible.

Maybe I'll get that raise!! Thanks!!

When can we expect the online version to be updated?

Carleton moves down? Flawed. Seriously flawed.

;-)

Avian, I am not sure why you say the new rankings have been "leaked" -- as I mentioned, the 2009 issue has been on sale at at least a couple of newsstands in New York City since at least yesterday.

Hey Donna, wasn't there an "up and coming" school list? What schools were mentioned?

Did I miss the LAC list?

I suspect they are using the "leaked" language because those editions were not supposed to be sold. "Leaked" (in this usage) doesn't necessarily mean that the early information came from within the USNews organization.

What Forbes did was use a who's who book that one can get their dog listed in and random posts on a site where people with bad grades get to take it on on their profs. I'd rather have the Dean of the local beauty school ranking colleges--it would be more accurate.

Yes, it does. And many applicants, including my own D, have both national universities and LACs on their list. They have to make that comparison and ranking in their own minds whether USNWR does it or not.

Yes. It's on post #2 of this thread.

"I'd rather have the Dean of the local beauty school ranking colleges--it would be more accurate."

Well, now you do. ;)

coureur, I apologize. I meant the complete National LAC list. I should have been specific.

Up and coming, national universities:

George Mason
Clemson
USC
U Md. Baltimore
Drexel
Portland State
U Central FL
Azusa Pacific
UC Riverside
UNC Charlotte
U San Diego
U. South Carolina - Columbia
Ball State
Indiana/Purdue - Indianapolis
Northeastern
Ohio State U - Columbus
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
U South Florida

Did they list up and coming LACs?
