So as it gets closer, I'm starting to feel intimidated by the idea of UM academics. I'm wondering what the best way to approach it is. Is it best to take a lighter courseload in one's first semester and then ease into a more difficult one? How would one go about doing this? I've recently had no desire to do anything academic ever again, so I'm a little worried. Any suggestions for how to adapt?

Thanks in advance!

Time Management is key. Don't fret over the rigor of academics. I'm sure you'll be able to manage it. However, don't party too much :)

I know they suggest to go lighter the first semester. Something closer to 12 credits and then ease up to the 15 or 18.

Ill be taking 16 credits or 14 credits the first semester. Everyones a bit worried about the academic transition - so you're not alone.

I have a question - will a 1 credit or 2 credit course entail less work (homework, class hours , etc) than a 4 credit class??. And it will count less when calculating GPA yeah?

gomez:

usually a 1 or 2 credit class means less work, but sometimes not. This semester I'm taking a Business Law class that is 2 credits, but requires more work than some of my 3 credit classes!!

And yeah they do count for less when calculating GPA.

it also depends on what classes you take.

The classes you take determine your course load much more than the number of credits.
