My son was waitlisted by Eastman. Any suggestions for if there is anything he can do to be moved to accepted? Are students moved off the waitlist to accepted still offered scholarships? This whole process is so stressful!
what instrument?
Your son can write emails or contact Eastman to show his strong interest. I would say “possible with scholarships”. I haven’t seen the cases particularly at Eastman but at other music conservatories. Also, those music schools usually accept good amount of international students who may contribute school more financially. In this world pandemic, some international students may not choose to attend this particular time / year. This year might be different than past years…
Be positive if Eastman is the top choice. It is a great music school.
Your son definitely has a good chance to be accepted and to be offered a scholarship. Last year my son went from being wait listed at a different music conservatory to being accepted with a scholarship. We asked for an increase in scholarship and they doubled it from about 12,500 to about 25,000 per year. Unfortunately in the end, we did not end up choosing that school for financial reasons, but don’t give up on a wait listed school. My son made regular contact with the school, informing them that he was definitely still interested.
My son did have to fill out a form saying that he was interested in being placed on the waitlist. Should he also send an email to admissions? @Trom2020 he plays trombone. But yes, it would only be possible with scholarship money.
I wish you son the best of luck. Eastman is a great school. My child attended their summer institute (and was hoping to attend this summer as well) and learned so much. Would you be willing to share more about his experience auditioning for trombone? What other schools is he considering? Any advice in general?
