Are there any teachers for computer science degree classes who give good grades? It is my first year at UNC so I dont want to get stuck with a strict teacher

Are you taking 110 or 401 your first semester? You don’t have much choice for 401, but I had Stotts for 110 (and 410) and he’s a really good professor. He’s very helpful outside classes, his exams are fair and his classes aren’t boring.

Well I mean other classes too like discrete math, linear algebra, physics etc.

I can’t really help you with physics, but for discrete math don’t take the Math department’s course. The CS dept offers an equivalent class taught by Snoeyink that fills the same requirement, but its easier and more relevant to CS. Snoeyink is a good professor too.

Go to myedu.com, they have the grade distributions. One thing I don’t recommend is making a conclusion on how much work you need to put in based on these distributions (e.g. “this class has 30% A’s so I can slack and still get an A”) because there are many confounding variables in there, most notably the rigor of the professors and the quality of your classmates. I’ve experienced a total reversal of expectations once, never again.

@blue_box do you happen to know the class name or class code… the one i found was
COMP 283 - Discrete Structures … is that the correct one?

Yes, it used to be COMP 590 so it also filled this CS requirement-

but not anymore.
