I know everyone will answer this thread with "do what you want to do". The thing is, I don't know what I want to do. I'm starting this thread to get some good ideas, and if I like some and they appeal to me and my interests, then I'll use them.

I'm trying to get into an Ivy, and I have pretty good grades, a ton of AP's, and some decent volunteer work and research.

Also, if anyone knows any awards, competitions, or programs that look great for Ivies, let me know!

Thanks in advance, and hope you're having a great new year.

The reason that people are going to tell you to do what you want to do and not choose things because you think colleges will like them is because it is true. But this thread might help you some if that’s really what you’re looking for

I’m going to do exactly as you say and tell you that you should not be thinking about college when you decide to participate in your extracurriculars. It will be obvious that college was the motivator for your participation, and it will actually work against you.

However, as you said, you would like ideas. Give us more details. Do you like writing? Sports? Film? Science? Math? etc

You could do anything from Robotics to Quiz Bowl to Model UN to working for the school newspaper. You’d have to give us more direction.

Begin early, and try a few different clubs. If you gravitate toward one of them, roll with it and join similar ones. That’s all that can be said.
