How much weight does EC/volunteer/PS hold in junior transfer?
Most of the UCs(With the exception of UC Berkeley) don’t care all that much about extracurriculars. They’re just focused on your GPA and the completion of classes for your major by fall. Still, they’ll look good on your application, so please don’t misconstrue this as a message saying that you shouldn’t do ECs.
true?
@taotao88 Even if that was true, if you were neck-to-neck with another applicant with similar stats, the admissions counselor deciding would probably pick the one with the good ECs. That applicant would just look more well-rounded. But of course that’s just my opinion.
ECs are always good to have but many seem to get in without them.
Depends on the school and the major. Overall, having ECs won’t hurt you, and like @kmariel said, they can be used to separate very closely competitive applicants.
Thanks. Very good point.
How about volunteer?
Work, volunteer, clubs, anything.
Thank you.
The most important part is to keep as high of a GPA as possible and finish all major pre-recs as soon as possible. I know the counselors say you can finish them during the spring before you transfer, but according to the head of transferring at my school (Santa Monica College) if they have one applicant who has finished everything and one who hasn’t, who do you think they’re going to pick?
But definitely try for EC too! Just don’t let it hurt your GPA.
