Eckerd college VS Virginia Commonwealth University

Hi so I'm from VA and I am a graduating senior. I'm not 100% what I want as a career after college. But I do know that I want to major/minor in languages and international relations. I've been the VCU campus/rva several times since its only 1 hour away from where I live. Currently my dad has enrolled me in both VCU and Eckerd college to buy me some time (until this saturday) to decide what college I 100% want to attend. It's hard for me because I've never personally visited the Eckerd campus and while I'm sure its beautiful I have only seen pictures. I keep going back between both of the colleges with a list of pros and cons like the fact that VCU is an hour away from home, in the center of the city, has 30,000 students, diverse etc. Whereas Eckerd is obviously a lot more smaller with only 2,000 students and is in St. Petersburg, FL. Anyone with knowledge on both of these colleges can you give me your own advice onto which one is better and etc? It would be greatly appreciated I only have 2 days to decide and I keep going back and forth between the two!

It’s going to be really tough to make the decision when you haven’t visited Eckerd. None of us here will know “your” fit.

Call Eckerd at 1-800-456-9009 and ask for Mike Brown. I am your admission counselor and I will help you make the right choice for you. If it is Eckerd, great! If it is VCU, great! In the meantime, if you want a little more interactive look, we have a mobile app for Apple iOS devices. Just search Eckerd College in the app store. Give me a call when you can and I’ll be happy to talk with you and answer your questions.

We just visited Eckerd last week with my Junior son, and he basically said I want to go there or nowhere! He loved it! I do believe it is a school where the “fit” is going to be more important then other places. It’s a small close community so “fit” is more important than in a larger school where there will be so many different types of students. In a wonderful and almost weird way just about every single student we passed throughout the day went out of their way to stop us and engage us in honest, open conversation about Eckerd life. Most students couldn’t say enough positive things about it. People seem genuinely happy and at the same time take their education seriously. My son sat in on a class and also felt it was exactly what he was looking for academically. I can’t say enough about it, but it was so clearly a “fit” for my son that my view is a bit biased. I think it’s worth it for you to go for a visit, you will know if it’s for you almost immediately. Happy to answer any specific questions I can for you, and I have a ton of iPhone pictures we took also. Good luck!
