Hey guys,
Since coming to Penn, while I’ve been enjoying the engineering courses I’m taking, my interests in business and entrepreneurship have also continued to grow. Thus, I have been looking into the process for applying for a dual degree through Wharton or transferring into the M&T program. However, the course requirements to apply found here: https://undergrad-inside.wharton.upenn.edu/itdd-requirements/ indicate that one must take Econ 001 and 002 by the end of the Spring semester to apply for entry into Wharton for Sophomore fall. Currently, while I do have a class in Wharton (added it as an elective bearing in mind that I may try to apply for a dual degree), I am not enrolled in Econ 001, which is in the College (kind of counterintuitive for being a prerequisite to apply to Wharton internally…). Since it’s not possible to take both Econ 001 and 002 in the Spring, does this mean I’m pretty much screwed out of any chance to go for a dual degree since I don’t have AP Credit for Econ? It seems a little ridiculous to be disqualified for not knowing something like this in the first couple weeks as a freshman, especially since it isn’t exactly obvious since Econ 001 is not a Wharton class. Further, my advisor never mentioned I would have to do take Econ 001 in the fall when I expressed interest in doing the dual degree.
Am I missing something? Any advice is appreciated.
You will get better advice from M&T office since you are already in Penn.
@Penn2020Rising Double check with the M&T office but i am pretty sure you need to have taken both by the end of freshman year. Given how insanely competitive it is to enter the M&T program (you usually need a 3.8+ GPA which as a freshman engineer is very tough and they take 2-3 people max I think), you could also look at the option of pursuing an uncoordinated dual degree between SEAS and Wharton. For this you have until end of sophomore year to apply I think.
