I know econ+math is reputed to be ideal preparation for ibanking, but how would econ and philosophy prepare a student/ look to potential employers.

If I were an employer, I'd prefer econ + philosophy. Econ + math seems a bit too redundant if you're not going to grad school. Philosophy, or any other humanities, will give you that extra realm of skills.

But your not an employer... econ+math is the route to take. Every employer is different, econ+math is always more reliable than econ+philosophy.

I think philosophy offers greater personal benefit, but math is more practical in terms of getting an ibanking job.

Well it's really up to you and your abilities. Why? you have no control of your employer and some may want econ+math, econ+phys, econ+stats, etc... so don't really concern yourself with that. Even I'm just HS schooler, I don't think its smart major in math, stat, or phys knowing you're not very good at it plus it will harm your GPA and waste time. My mother told me that a friend of hers was a senior and had to change his major at the very last minute because he didn't require the GPA of the major Accounting to graduate.

If you feel that its absolutely require then take the safe route and just minor it shouldn't hurt you too much!
