I got into CAS with Economics as my primary interest, and I am planning to go to graduate school after college. I was awarded Eliot Scholarship that met my full financial need.
Is it better to get economics degree from CAS than Olin in my case? Also, if I get to transfer from CAS to Olin, will I still receive Eliot Scholarship? Please share your opinion.
You would keep the scholarship if you switch to Olin. As for which one is better, it would depend on what you’re looking for. I’m not as familiar with the different between Econ and econ & strategy (in Olin). You could also double major or minor between divisions.
I am currently a junior in the CAS studying economics, and I also plan on attending graduate school after finishing college.
I’m not sure which is “better,” but many students who attend graduate school for economics graduate from the College of Arts and Sciences. Furthermore, I believe Olin’s economics track is a little more career oriented (I could be wrong though).
That being said, if you plan on going to graduate school in economics you should be ready to take a lot of math classes. If you were to transfer to the Olin Business school, you might not have enough time in your schedule to take these math classes.
My most important advice would be to breathe and relax–you haven’t even started college yet. I would advise waiting to make this decision after a couple semesters at Wash U.
Thank you!
