Hi, so I am currently a first year in the college and I was wondering if I could still be recruited by the big consulting firms if I were to be a public policy major instead of an econ major. Thanks so much and if you have any info that could help me, please reply.
Bump on your behalf, have the same question.
The firms don’t really care about your major. I have a couple friends that went to MBB with majors like history or pub pol.
Two high school friends of one of my kids were hired by one of those firms. One double majored in Sociology and Public Policy; the other majored in History with a minor in Studio Art (painting). They were at colleges other than Chicago, but I don’t think that’s relevant.
On the other hand, I think the big (and small) consulting firms want to know that you have quantitative skills. If the rationale for going with Public Policy over Econ is you don’t want to deal with so much math – a common rationale for going with Public Policy at Chicago – that’s not such a good thing from the standpoint of the consulting firms.
