Econ. Major Workload

Hey, I applied early to Uchicago, and just want to get a handle on the workload of an econ major. Can any current econ majors comment on this? How much homework do you have approx. per night? Just a general idea would be awesome.

Also, from what I understand, much of the economics/math at UChicago are taught from a theoretical perspective. Do most students view this as annoying/a pain in the butt? Thanks in advance.

I have the same questions since I applied EA econ. as well.

I haven't taken any econ classes here yet, but it seems as though the homework is not bad if you're good at math. i.e. the homework is just problem sets.

The intro classes, however, have basically no homework.

well downtown, if a student thought theoretical POV is a pain in a butt, its unlikely he/she comes to chicago haha...at least that's what i think.

but it is challenging. very. no doubt that.

I know a math/econ major here, and he was freaking out a few weeks ago due to his econ classes and homework. He's very good at math, and he still was nervous.

I've heard that there's a lot of competition here in undergrad econ, due to the large number of foreign students who are required by their countries to due well and receive certain excellent grades. So, I'm assuming it's no walk in the park.

But I'm guessing it's challenging in a good way.

Of course. That's what this place is all about. =)
