I have a same thread at the Search and Selection section but since I am a junior transfer candidate, I wanted some thoughts from my fellow transfer hopefulls, especially for econ majors.
I am Korean and I surf around Korean websites very frequently. And I found this ranking for undergrad. econ major program. This ranking was created by the one of the major Korean newspaper groups which I find pretty respectable.
What do you guy's think out of this ranking? I personally find UW-madison fascinating because I've got accepted there for econ....

1st MIT
2nd Harvard University, Princeton University, Stanford University,
University of Chicago
6th UC-Berkeley
7th Yale University
8th Northwestern University
9th University of Pennsylvania
10th University of Wisconsin-Madison

Why did you start so many threads? (***) anyways, what does the korean newspaper say? Under what grounding did they judge the schools? and whats the point of this topic anyways? oh and, i'm guessing you're a fob :P? (not to be rude)

This is the first few from the 2005 rankings of USN&WR:

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
University of Chicago

Harvard University (MA)
Princeton University (NJ)
Stanford University (CA)
University of CaliforniaBerkeley

Such rankings are usually pretty stable and don't change much I guess.

Like theherald said, what criteria did they use?

UWMadison has a very (supposedly top 10-15) business school and I've noticed that schools with good business schools usually have good economics programs (suprise suprise). So its not too shocking to see UWMadison ranked that high imo.

um...its not for asians. its for everyone (or at least thats how everyone i know uses the word) for anyone who recently arrives to the country haha

My bad. In every context I've ever heard that word it's been used to describe asian immigrants, but after looking at the wikipedia article on it, I stand corrected. The More You Know!

Yes! jhpark, I have the link...

And I do not see NYU other than the Business Category. I assume you are also Korean and it is nice talking to you. Are you transfering to NYU? If you are aming at or already accepted to Sterns, you are very fortunate. Cuz, they have a very well respected undergrad. business program as you might already know.

i have never heard fob regarding asians, only cubans. i guess it is like how some northerners call fountains bubblers and people say coke/soda/pop.

Lol that is more flawed than the absurd Chinese ranking floating around here. They say that the rankings are for undergrad schools but they have rankings for Law program? Lol. Take all rankings, especially ones from such prestige-obssessed countries as Korea, with a huge grain of salt....

y17k, I have seen lots of different kind of rankings around here. And I do not think they are all correct. And this information I posted here was just a second opinion from a different nation. If you don't like it or feel that it is worthless, then ignore it. Rational college students or any other Americans I know do not judge someone or their countries without thinking twice. Wouldn't it be worthwhile looking at different rankings from different countries for you or any other student regardless of race? Obviously, people can't see your face over the web, but we all owe basic respects to everyone who is desperately waiting for their decisions at this moment.

Hrm? My post wasn't an attack on you, but rather an attack on the rankings. Sorry if it came off on the wrong way (I think my quoting your whole post may have implied that my deregatory comments were aimed at you, but this was not my intention).

And being a Korean who worked (albeit briefly) as a Teacher Assistant at an international school in Korea aimed at sending kids to ivy-league and other prestigious schools, I think my comments aren't completely without weight: Koreans LOOOOOOOVE prestige.
