Econ

Well.. I will be attending Carleton from this fall.. and wanted to know about the Economics and Mathematics department at Carleton. I more or less know about the professor and course at Carleton but wanted to know people outside Carleton see it. Although I might major in any or both I see econ as my career path!

How are Carls regarded at econ schools like- harvard, princeton and columbia?

Also, I saw many Carls who majored in Econ attended U Minnesota and U Wisconsin, these schools are obviously great but is it that not being able to attend grad courses reduces the chances at of a Carl attending a top-notch school?

please feel free to talk about anything about the econ/math dept that is not already in their website.

U of M is a top 10 school, while UW is a top 20 school – both top-notch grad schools if you ask me. We have sent people to MIT (that guy also got into Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia, I think), UChicago, Cornell, and other places. Grad courses do help, but at Carleton you have the advantage of more personal letters of recommendation which play a huge role; you also have some opportunity for research, too. Carleton has a very good reputation with grad schools, UChicago in particular I would say. The math department is very good too, and if you are thinking of doubling in math and econ that is a feasible option.
