Economic Status

i was wondering if admissions counselors take into account the income of your family when analyzing your application?

it has been something that i have been wondering but i cannot find the answer so im trying here.

thanx

It's apparently true - or at least it was, a while back - that children of physicians perform noticeably better than candidates with equal GPAs and MCAT scores.

I will tell you that every school I applied to is need blind and commits to meet your financial aid; with that said, I do think "I'm the first generation to go to college and my parents worked in a sweatshop" essays are probably better than "My father is an investment banker who retired at age 50 to write my college essays for me". The point is how it's used in your essays and interviews; I don't think any school will consider it aside from that.

ok thanx... because "I'm the first generation to go to college and my parents worked in a sweatshop" almost describes my situation. i am the first generation to go to college and my father works 2 full time jobs and my mom works 1 and i live in one of the most expensive places to live. i was just curious as to whether it would benefit me at all come application time. im not relying on it though
