Economics - a useless degree?

Economics, business, management, and everything closely related. They are among the most studied subjects at university in the entire world (there are several statistics on this)

Adding the fact that many people who are interested in the field and/or want to work in the field can do so without a degree, what's the sense of studying it at university unless you do it at a top university?

I started studying Economics this year (at a normal university) because I'm really interested in the field... but I was shocked to see how many others are studying it...

What to do if the supply of economists/business-students/etc. becomes greater than the demand of them in the world?

It doesn't really matter, the vast majority of people with careers today have nothing to do with their actual major. Businesses just want to see if you have a degree, many times it doesn't matter what the field is.

It depends what your goals are. If you want to become a CPA there are specific requirements for that as far as accounting classes. There are also some firms that want accounting majors specifically.

Ummm....according to who?!?!?!?!?!

Econ major->corporate law, investment banking, management, financial planning, investment management, etc etc etc
