Economics/Mathematics/ORFE?

I have heard about each of these 3 majors, and I was just wondering, which one of these would be the best for someone who is very interested in pursuing a career in finance? Thanks!

same question...also, if you apply to arts and sciences, can you concentrate in a program that belongs to BSE?

doesn't P'ton allow students to make/combine majors that suit them best?

There's a certificate in finance that you can go after, but of those three, I'd say ORFE.

First, keep in mind that there's an excellent Finance Certificate you can receive regardless of the major you're doing. This is ideal for people in whack majors who still want applicable real world skills. I know French majors interviewing at hedge funds, it really doesn't matter what major you pursue.

Saying that, ORFE, Econ, and Math definitely have a leg up on the competition. Math majors from princeton are ridiculous. If you're that good at math, people will recognize it and heavy quant positions will be offered to you left and right.

That said, there are very mathematical tracks in both ORFE and Econ, so no matter which major you choose, you couldn't go wrong. Just keep in mind that math is really, really, really hard here. I took differential equations in high school, and I think i'd have trouble passing even the first math-major requirement here.

If you're serious about math, I'd recommend taking the math major requirements (analysis and physics 105), which overlap nicely with the engineering requirements for ORFE. After a semester (or perhaps even a few days, haha) you can figure out whether or not you want to drop down and do ORFE or Econ.

Feel free to ask me any more questions about the three departments. I'm an ORFE major, btw.

iv4me, if you're not in the BSE program, can you still take classes for ORFE?

Thanks, iv4me. I looked on this information sheet, and it seems that there are only approximately 30 math majors every year. How good approximately are these students? (Like would they be among USAMO qualifier/ USAMO winner/ IMO level)
