economics

so... econ at cmu or northwestern. Someone help me out here.

easy: northwestern

What makes it so good?

no clue. all i know is that it's awesome according to usnews.

it's at the same level of uchicago, harvard, penn, & mit economics

doesnt US news only rank graduate econ programs?

no clue.

trust me on this one. northwestern's economics department is awesome. cmu's economics program really can't match up. i got into cmu economics, but waitlisted at mccormick. if i get in to NU, i'm def going to go to NU b/c i want to have economics as a second major. it's that good. (i would be turning down michigan, hopkins, carnegie mellon, & rutgers down)

Northwestern is known to have a very strong economics department. Best two schools in the nation for economics are MIT and U of Chicago. Then, the next are Stanford, Yale, Northwestern, Berkely, and Harvard. Grad schools acknowledge that, according to a professor here at Northwestern. Northwestern's economics department is especially well known for microeconomics and game theory, in which we rank 1-2 in the nation.

doesnt US news only rank graduate econ programs?

It's the same reason that UChicago is said to have great undergrad program--the graduate (i.e. professor) ranking. When people say XYZ college has great program, they are implicitly using graduate ranking even they may not be aware of it.
