Regarding Pomona, I hear that the key to getting in is spectacular sat scores, godo gpa, but also good ecs. I'm just curious though, because its my dream school but I don't have that many ecs. My passion is science, history and reading but there weren't that many ecs to do in these subject areas. I applied for internships at a marine science organization and was accepted but i didn't have the money and time to drive 100 miles back and forth to the institution so i couldn't go. So in light of my circumstances, I'm from a low income family, first in the family to go to college (parents didn't graduate from high school (immigrants)), would they see my lack of good ecs as a sign of my laziness or what?

Maybe you could talk about it in your interview? I also don't have any extracurriculars that specifically relate to my intended major, except for a brief stint writing for a now-defunct music news/reviews site.
