How do colleges weigh these???

Are good AP scores better than good EC's? Or is it vice versa?

Thanks in advance!

Colleges honestly don’t care about AP scores too much. From what I understand, they care more about the fact that you’re taking AP classes, not so much the scores you receive.

And since colleges really focus on EC’s, they’re definitely more important than your AP scores.

You can not make a blanket statement about either of these. Some schools care about ECs. Some do not. A unique EC may however catch the attention of an adcom even at a school where ECs normally don’t carry much weight. This could be a national award in an academic EC (science olympiad, etc.).

APs exam scores do matter to some schools in that a low score in a class that you received a high grade could indicate grade inflation. Just think of a 3 as a neutral score (as much as many cc’ers may cringe at this score!). It’s not going to do much for you, nor is it going to kill you. If you are taking several AP courses and consistently scoring low, top tier universities will wonder if you can handle the demands of college.

The more competitive the school, the more things like this are going to matter. Top tier schools are going to receive thousands of applications from students who are qualified by GPA and SAT/ACT scores. It then depends on the school to determine what other factors they consider and the weight given to each.
