I will be applying to schools this fall and my grades are good, I have a 3.9 gpa, and a 1260 on the sat. One thing that has been worrying me, though, are my ECs. I pretty much don’t have any. I go to a small private school and the only ECs that we have are sports. Since I’ve always hated sports, I never joined any. I was on the Yearbook staff but Yearbook is a class at my school so I don’t know if that counts. I volunteer and have a job but will not having any ECs hurt my application?
To me it looks like your ECs should be fine for all but the most competitive schools. Working on the yearbook would count as an EC. Volunteering in the community counts as an EC. Note that ECs do not have to be done in the school – they can be in the community, church etc… And you can include your job under work experience – colleges will value a job as much as an EC.
