this makes me really sad, and very scared to apply ed2… or at all.

@Rejectedfromcmc

To double check, does the letter make it clear that CMC policy is to either accept or reject ED applicants? There’s no more deferring, as there was before?

@Woandering CMC does not defer. They either accept, reject, or (in very small numbers) wait list.

@Giuliana1821 Go for ED2. You know it is tough, but if it is a reach, just go for it. With ED2, you still apply to all your other schools, so there’s no harm in ED2.

@84stag

Isn’t waitlisting for RD?

The CMC website says the available results for ED are accept, reject, and defer. From @Rejectedfromcmc I assumed CMC might have changed their policy this year.

To people who have gotten rejected, can you still apply RD and are you going to?

@bendaboo see my above post.
“Furthermore, because there is no appeal process, and because we are not deferring any early decision applicants to regular decision, this decision is final.”

Imagine you’re Charlie and CMC is Willy Wonka at the end of the movie.
“You get nothing. You lose. Good day sir!”

@Woandering I believe it makes itself pretty clear: once you’re out, you’re out. Here’s hoping I’m wrong but it seems pretty set in stone.

That hurts good luck with other apps i guess. Are all rejection emails the same (ie a template), because i didnt get the comment above.

@bendaboo here is a screenshot of my letter if it means anything to you. http://i.imgur.com/6rZayLm.png

okay it looks like cc is censoring it. replace the stars with imgur dot com

Rejected I wish I wasn’t as passionate about the school because there really isn’t anywhere that I’m excited to apply to. Does anyone have any suggestions schools similar to CMC?

D accepted. Very excited for her. Only school she applied to and wanted. 33 ACT, 4.5 GPA, and highly recruited athlete with positive early read.
Congrats to all accepted. For those rejected, don’t despair… You will find the right fit.

Thanks @Rejectedfromcmc , comparing it now. Good luck with other schools and apps

Interesting. So it seems CMC has decided not to defer ED applicants anymore. Or was this already happening and the website just never got updated?

Time to choose a backup EDII school for when I apply…

Wait, if the letter says “Furthermore, because there is no appeal process, and because we are not deferring any early decision applicants to regular decision, this decision is final.” we can’t apply to CMC as RD or EDII?!

Im not sure, but I really doubt it. Although, I have heard that west coast schools often defer very very few people, maybe that could be a factor?

@luckyguy7 I’m pretty sure it means you can’t apply RD or EDII
@bendaboo I don’t think that’s really necessarily true, I think it’s just that the fact that you didn’t get in ED1 which is statistically the least selective, chances are you wont get in later, so they just don’t bother with deferrals.

@alicksmeow

I’m pretty sure in the past, LACs in general only defer if they do think the student has a chance in RD. The easier acceptance rate is mainly brought up by the athletes and URMs.

@Lagunatic Sorry you were rejected. My D was rejected too. As you can surmise, I’m an alum and not too pleased with my alma mater right now. I still love the school and the time I spent there. I’m just bummed for my kid. It looks like lots of very qualified people were denied entry. I’m sure that’s the case with you (or your kid). What’s plan B for you?

Rejections do hurt but they might help you refocus on your remaining choices. Fewer deferrals should help the entire process.
