For those of you who have been through the Penn admissions process (specifically ED) could you post some important things that us prospects should know about the applications and admissions process.

Please Keep this thread on a serious note.

e.g. no thread jackers, or stupid comments.

Sounds like a more detailed version of "Why would you like to attend...?"

If you can name a professor and provide good reasons why studying with that prof fits your goals, you've at least done your homework and perhaps provided the school with some useful info.

Logically, selecting a prof in your intended major would make sense. Alternatively, a prof outside your area might fit, too... "Even though I plan to major in economics, I'd love to take Art History from Prof... Her lectures are legendary, and I've read several of her books on the Impressionists."

I'd just say to be confident and put absolutely everything you could imagine into your app. Assuming your grades and scores are pretty good to excellent...pour everything youve got into your essays. Start working on them earlyand revise them a hundred times and have everyone read them and critique...take it all in and except it and then rewrite and have people read again. I was getting frustrated with my family telling me my essays werent good...That they were well written but not special...it took me like 3 diff topics and like 4 versions and tons of revision but i finally got it right..everyone thought they were great and i couldn't possibly be happer with my essays. My only other advise would be to make sure to have your app really reflect your personality, cause they wanna get a good feel of who you are to accept you. Your more likely to get accepted if they have this image of this person that they feel like the almost know, than if your just another app with some numbers and words.

and for the record, if any newbie has any questions, they are welcome to msg me. short and medium length questions please. all long, tedious, and ugly, hairy, questions should be directed to Jcoveney

depending on what interests you, you might want to look up the specific department website (e.g economics, mathematics, or the wharton website). The websites will have several details about a particular professor if you click "faculty" or "staff" (i am not sure, you will have to check it out). the links will also have research interests of professors. That would be a good way to choose a professor you would like to work with. If you are applying to Wharton, there is a large amount of information for you to go through.
