ED and Rolling admissions-submit music tape for non music major

<p>If my son Applies ED1 to vassar, is he still able to do a rolling admission to Univ of Mich and Indiana U?</p>

<p>Another ques, thanks..he thinks he will be double majoring in theatre/psych. He has been playing the trombone since 6th grade and has made some county and regional bands as well as jazz ensemble and marching band. He is not at the level of talent or interest of a music major. Should he submit a cd to demonstrate willingness to play in extra curricular jazz and concert bands or will this hurt him if it is not top notch?

<p>I would say that he should definitely submit a CD. I would personally recommend he submit a music supplement sample, particularly if he's interested in any of the school-run instrumental groups. If he would prefer not to submit a separate music supplement, he could include a CD as part of the "YourSpace" on the Vassar supplement to the common application.</p>

<p>And yes, I believe that he can still apply to University of Michigan and Indiana University rolling if he applies to Vassar EDI... he'll just have to cancel those two applications if he is accepted to Vassar.</p>

<p>Thanks littleathiest, you are very helpful. What is a music supplement sample and who should he send it too? I think he was going to submit a one-act play for yourspace. You don't think a sub professional tape geared to the school run instrumental groups wont hurt him if it's not top shelf? Also, should we label it as for school run instrumental groups. Thanks again!</p>

<p>littleatheist is probably right about the rolling admissions situation, but better double-check--it could be exclusive like Yale's EA is.</p>

The Common Application actually has a music supplement your son could use, if he's interested (my sister is also applying to colleges this upcoming year, and this is what she's using). <p>And no, I personally doubt that a "sub-professional" tape would hurt his chances of admittance. If the music supplement seems like it might be a bit over his head, however, the YourSpace segment on the Vassar Common Application Supplement might make more sense. It would still allow him to show off his talent, but wouldn't be as formal an undertaking and wouldn't be listened to by a member of the Vassar music faculty.</p>
