Accepted with “Thank you…as an early decision candidate”.
Thank you to everyone who is posting message/stats. Here’s a question: was anyone ACCEPTED with OUR RECORDS INDICATE?
@Winky1: So far, it’s looking like for EDII, “thank you” can be an acceptance or a denial, and “our records” is a deferral. Do you agree?
Hi @YoungOne4 , I do thing Our Records is a deferral for EDI and EDII. Did you find it was also an indicator of denial for RD? Or is that not the case? Also, while 3 people have been denied in EDI and ED II with Thank You message, far, far more people are accepted with it. So, I like your idea that those denied with the Thank You message could be from a particular college from the university. But if we have to make a blanket statement, then yes, Thank You can be acceptance or denial for EDI and EDII. Do you agree that EDI should be included with these EDII thoughts?
What about RD now? Is the Thank You message for acceptances and denials? I wonder.
Advice for people in the future applying EDI or ED II!
There are three different messages that the applicant link will show
“Our records indicate you have applied to [insert college here] as an Early Decision candidate”
This is the basic message. You get this message no matter what initially
The next two messages are what your message could later change to:
“Thank you for applying to [insert college here] as an Early Decision candidate”
This message includes Early Decision and in the past it has correlated with acceptance (and/or denial for ED II only)
This next message is entirely different than the first:
“Our records indicate you have applied to [insert college here] for the [upcoming school year]”
This message does not include Early Decision in the message, unlike the one you get when you make the applicant account. In the past it has been correlated with referral.
(Note “our records” alone is not the important part because two different messages say it. Also the “Thank You” always says “Early Decision” so that part is not relevant to the message specifical)
Under the assumption that people aren’t rejected from ED I. I’m pretty sure “Thank You” means accepted or rejected. Since there are no people rejected under ED I, it still has the same meaning, only no one is rejected. Meaning having “Thank you” in ED I indicates acceptance. “Our records” WITHOUT saying Early Decision in ED I means you have differed. In ED II, the “Thank you” message still means acceptance or rejection, although people are actually able to get rejected in ED II. For RD the message appears to have no significance at all.
It’s very unlikely the message is a “glitch” or unintended flaw in the system because it has a direct correlation with acceptance. I believe the purpose of the “our records” message is to assist in placing the students in the transfer pile. Instead of saying Early Decision, it says the college and academic year. This is essential because those are the candidates it plans to judge you along, not the Early Decision pile. I believe the “Thank you” message was plausibly designed for ED I originally to sound more welcoming to admitted students and they needed another message, but that last part is just speculation.
For the record, I applied under Early Decision II to the College of Arts & Science and was admitted. I had a “Thank You” message as early as January 13th. I did not receive a housing email and I don’t think it has any direct correlation with denial, (maybe acceptance?)
Here are my stats:

AP Scholar
ECs: ( I had a lot more than I just didn’t put)
Model UN - President & Founder
NHS - President
SkillsUSA - Class Representative for Law & Justice
Secretary of State Student Ambassadors (one of nine students)
Quizbowl - Treasurer and Co-founded
Political Campaign Volunteer

Essay - Very good. I wrote about changing my beliefs on policy overall and how I see college as an oppertunity for intellectual curiosity.
For Why BU, I wrote about how it’s a global school and that will help me in aims working for the UN (I listed a lot of specifics)
Recs - Very good. I had one from my former “employer” who was the candidate for the campaign I volunteered for. One from my APUSH teacher who I would perform skits in the class for and one from my other higher-level High School who said I was one of the best students she’s ever had.
Congrats to those who got in and I hope those who were differed or denied have good luck in spring!
Now I gotta somehow find a roommate because I’m from Georgia and no noone going to BU ;-;
We’ll find another college
Accepted with “thank you” message and received a housing email.
International Applicant
Accepted!
SAT: 1290
IB student: Predicted grade around a 35, not including the extra points
EC: Many extracurriculars (basically relied on this knowing I had a bad SAT) - Student government president, volunteer activities, debate, 3 varsity sports teams, clothing brand, cheer, dance, etc…
Had a very good relationship with my teacher and counselor recs.
Honestly a little shocked I got accepted given the low SAT score but nonetheless very happy!
Good Luck to everyone!
