I was wondering, how hard is it to get out of ED if you are accepted but dont feel that you can pay for college as the fin aid package is not good enough?

The general rule of thumb is that if financial aid is a concern, you shouldn't apply ED. I think it's pretty hard to get out of an ED agreement because you absolutely have to prove that the aid you've been given isn't enough and that you will be attending a lower-cost school (typically a state school) instead. This is what I've gathered from various topics on ED. (Search the College Admissions forum.)

This isnt exactly true because if you are accepted ED you must make your decision before RD decisions come out and you are supposed to withdraw all your RD applications. So the way the timing works really is that you won't be able to shop around or see which schools are cheaper or prove in any way that you are going to a cheaper school cause you are technically not supposed to have been accepted to any other schools yet.

So then basically if I feel insecure about finances then I shouldn't apply ED?

That's what he's saying, yes.
