When you run the NPC at Colgate, what do you get for the Expected Family Contribution?
ESTIMATED NET PRICE
$ 7000
Estimated Self Help
$ 5300
CategoryCost
Student Loan $ 2500
Student Work $ 2800
ESTIMATED REMAINING COST
$ 1700$
But they also added “Estimated Federal Pell Grant $ 5815” which I think is exclusive to Domestics?
@thumper1, Are net price calculators accurate for international students? I know internationals can’t get Pell, but I was under the impression they won’t qualify for loans or work study programs either.
If you are an international student you would not be eligible for a Pell Grant or for a Student loan.
Some NPC ask if you are an international or what state you live in. If the NPC doesn’t ask about international status and you are an international, it will not be accurate.
I’d advise carefully reading what Colgate states for ED applicants. That’s your best source regarding what circumstances would allow you to decline an ED acceptance and how that would work. Schools can vary a little on this. Also, money aside, is Colgate a place you would want to attend if accepted? It’s a terrific school and a beautiful campus. It’s just good to be sure, and not just to choose a school because of the odds. It looks like a great list of schools. Again, good luck, and I hope the financial side works out. Enjoy the experience.
@TTG Where can I find that information? Yes, Colgate is a place I can see myself in, but it is still my 4th or 5th choice, so what should I do?
Colgate Early Decision
Applications 752
Admitted 376
Enrolled 369
Deferred 52
By this stat, only 7 student declined the ED offer. What does that signify? I mean is it good or bad as compared to other schools?
The net price calculator would ONLY be accurate if it actually asks if the student is an international student. If this question isn’t asked…it won’t be accurate…at all…because the assumption will be made that the student qualifies for U.S. federally funded aid, if eligible.
International students without permanent resident status cannot get any federally funded aid. They can’t complete a FAFSA. They can’t get federally funded loans, Pell Grants or SEOG.
In addition, the number of hours they can work is significantly limited. They cannot get federal,work study, because that is U.S funds.
Really…the only aid they can get is institutional aid provided by the colleges.
