ED For Unhooked Applicants

Does applying ED help at all for those that aren’t legacy or athlete recruits? I know Penn favors legacies a lot and it is only considered in the ED round so it’s more prominent at Penn than at other schools. Even with legacies and athletes, the acceptance rate is still 2.5x regular which can’t be only with those considered. Is it any easier for unhooked applicants ED since it shows interest or nothing at all?

The decision is binding, so applying ED should give some advantage to unhooked applicants as well. Compared to EA or SCEA, applying ED shows more interest.

That’s what I thought but people say the ED pool is more competitive and the acceptance rate is only skewed because of the athletes and legacies.

It definitely helps if you apply ED. Even if you excluded athletes/legacies from the applicant pool in ED, I’m pretty sure the ED acceptance rate would still be significantly higher than the RD acceptance rate.
