Im an international student from China so the decision came out 8:30 this morning! Accepted!
@lactobacillusEst Congrats! Will you kindly go to the first page and copy/paste the areas in which we ask for data? This helps students who may be applying next year to see what their chances are. You gave part of your stats, but not all of them. These boards really help kids deciding on which institutions to ED to and what their chances are. Once again,Congrats, the international application process is very selective, far more than for Americans so you should be very proud…go Gate!
Intenational student from Ukraine, ED II, rejected
@AnyaMotorina So sorry. The international pool is really tough. Do you mind copy/pasting the list from page one and posting all of your stats to help other students in the future see past experience at Colgate? I hope you get into the school that is perfectly suited for you.

My high school is supper small(49 students in our grade) and offers only IB. It doesn’t calculate 4 points GPA and does do ranking or percentile. My freshman year first semester gpa was like hell—I basically failed PE(yes we write essays for PE) and Science(both 3/7). My ib grades were decend(39/42) but I got C for TOK in all three semesters…
IB EnglishB HL, IB Chinese Lit SL, IB Math SL, IB Biology HL, IB Psychology HL, IB Theatre SL.

- Internship at Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College(experimental assistant)
- Written and directed a play for the school production “Nice to Meet You”—A Story About Autism,
- Psychology Club, rose from a member in Grade 9 to Co-president in Grade 10

Essays (rating 1-10, details)::
CommonApp: Wrote about my transformation in an international school, how I struggled with my speach problem(I use to statter quite seriously) but refused to be defined by words like demure, quiet, shy, used my favorite character(Medea) in a Greek play as metaphor through out the essay, so it has a little bit of feminism spirt as well.
Can’t rate it but my conselor and theater teacher read it and their eyes got wet; my English teacher said it’s beautifully written. I can still feel the emotion in it as I type this. Probably the best thing I’ve written in English.
Colgate essay: the one about recommending a book—wrote about Stoner by Jone Williams. I would give it an 8
Teacher Recommendations (rating 1-10, details)::
My Bio and Psy teacher, who is also my advisor. She is adorable and knows me well, 9/10
My English teacher- taught me 3 years but always joked that I gave her quite a headache…8/10
My theater teacher- taught me four years and witnessed my transformation, his wife is the highschool conselor and was with me when I had several major breakdowns. 10/10
Counselor Rec (rating 1-10, details)::
I love her! We both love reading and we are both feminist! 9/10
Additional Rec (rating 1-10, details)::
My best friend: I’ve read it and it was so genuine 10/10
Interview: Submitted an InitialView interview, it went really well
Applied for Financial Aid? No
State (if domestic applicant):
Country (if international applicant): China
School Type: Private, small
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female

Strengths: EAs, essays, recs, test score
Weaknesses: GPA
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m the first one in my school accepted by Colgate! I had several email conversations n with the admission representative of my area. I think I’m a good email writer and our conversations were very pleasant. I probably have left a favorouble impression.
Where else you are applying or have already applied:
Barnard(ED 1 rej); Bard (admitted); Agnes Scott(admitted with 25,000 scholorahip); Boston College(deferred); Wellesley(Early evaluation Possible); Hamilton; Mount Holyoke; Swarthmore; Scripps; University of Rochester; Case Western Reserve;
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:.
You are not defined by your admission result.
I literally cried for three days when I was rejected by Barnard. My best friend(the one who wrote my rec) lives in nyc and we’ve been envisioning our four years together since G10, and the feeling of a shattered dream was almost unbearable. I questioned myself and believed that I never deserved it with the Cs in TOK but now…I used to think that people who say “eveything will be the best arrangement” all the time are a bunch of arrogant hypocrites——it couldn’t be farther from the truth! Go gate!
I can’t wait to see you guys in the coming fall!
