ED Question: Am I competing against sport commits? HELP!!!!

I am applying ED to a pretty selective school, and I believe and have been told that I am a great candidate for admissions to this school. However, I recently found out that two people from my highschool committed to this school for Field Hockey and Volleyball. My high school is really small, so I’m worried that since two people from my high school are already going to this college, I will be rejected based on the fact that I go to the same school. Should I be concerned about this? Will the fact that they committed for sports have an impact on my admissions decision? HELP!!!

no. You might be rejected, but it won’t be because the school is recruiting some athletes from your HS. There’s no quota on your school. If you’re great and they want you, they’ll take you without regard to the two athletes. Good luck

If you are a great applicant it shouldn’t, but even if it did have an impact, there is nothing you can do. If you don’t get in, you cannot blame the athletes. So no, you should not be concerned about this. Waste of time, put your energy elsewhere.

What can you do about it? The athletes have committed and applied. You want this school as your first choice (ED) All you can do is pick a different ED school, and you don’t want to do that. I believe that each applicant is judged on her own merit, but of course have no way to prove that. You just have to trust the system.

^Right. The unis themselves say they don’t have quotas – why should they? They have no one to impress or protect. They admit whom they want, from where they want. They’re not beholden to any school. It could be a boon year for your school this year, at the expense of every nearby school – or vice versa. They don’t care. It’ll be based on the quality of the individual applicants.

You must choose to believe this or like some others, hold it back to use as a convenient scapegoat should you end up not being accepted.

Agree with above posts. If you don’t get into the college it will not be because of the athletic recruits from your HS.
