For admissions, how do these two differ? I know that ED2 is due later (same time as RD I believe, or at least very close), and that both are binding. But if I apply ED2 would that give me the same chance as applying ED1 or will my chances drop since I did not apply first round?
And how are the scholarship deadlines affected by ED1 and ED2? I know that if you apply ED you must be ready to attend and assume the financial debt that comes with it, but scholarships are after ED1, so how would this affect your application? Do you apply to the scholarships at the same time as you apply to the school?
I think that with both EDi and ED2 you should already know that based on the vandy calculator (if you put in correct and accurate numbers) what your financial aid, if any, should be. If there is any doubt about true afforability then many suggest not applying ED1 or ED2. I believe that one might be able to get out of the binding contract if for some reason you don’t get enough financial aid, but I don’t think this is the way to approach it. I think ED1 is best chances. Many that do ED2, have tried their number 1 selective school or IVY and didn’t get in, so they opt for Round 2 - so to speak. All of the scholarships are notified in Spring. And, they are very hard to get. I would not count on a scholarship at all. I believe that after you apply to Vanderbilt you will get an id and then go to your Vandy portal and be able to apply for the scholarships. I am thinking that the deadline last year for the application essays for scholarship were January 1. Hope that helps.

The scholarships come after ED and they are random as there are so many qualified applicants. Agree with above that you shouldn’t count on getting one.
I’ve heard from admissions that ED1 > ED2 > RD in terms of acceptance rate for competitive students. However, they don’t currently break it down between the two ED rounds.
Scholarship applications have different deadline (January 1st). My DS sent his RD application first and then submitted scholarship application couple of days before the deadline. He is a CV scholar.
