Education/Special Education Law Programs for those w/ an M.Ed?

I already have a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed in Special Education. I'm considering law school to work in education or special education law, but most programs expect you to earn a M.Ed at the same time. Is there such thing as an education law program that doesn't require getting an M.Ed at the same time? Would it be possible to go to a program that didn't offer that specialty and still get to where I want to go?

Most joint degree programs do not allow you to even work on your masters in the first year of LS. The norm is, you work 1L first, then jointly finish both after that. If that is what you’re asking? Hmm, I’m re-reading your post and I’m a little confused by what you’re asking. Are you asking if you have to take a joint degree? Of course not, just get your JD, and with your MEd already completed there’s no reason you wouldn’t make a competitive candidate in the field of educational law, but I’m not too knowledgeable in education law, so someone else might give better advice. Who is telling you that you need another MEd concurrent with a JD? Is the job market dictating this?

Most programs I’ve found are joint M.Ed/JD programs. I was mostly asking if it was possible to get into the field with a M.Ed and a JD that were not earned at the same time.

I think you should go find some lawyers that do what you want to do and look at the bios of their new hires. That’s the best way to see what the general requirements are in a given field.

@hellokiki Yes, of course. An employer does not care if the degrees were taken at the same time or not, as both degrees are earned in completely separate departments/programs/schools. Even if it is a joint degree, the masters or phd is not taught by the law school, unless it is a law specific masters. Still not 100% sure what you are asking to be honest, sorry I couldn’t help more.
