This upcoming fall I'll be attending a liberal arts college that doesn't offer a specific education major. I hope to be involved in teaching and adminstrative positions in the public school system, but I'm not sure as to what major to focus my energy toward. Is there anyone who could give me useful advice? I'd truly appreciate it.

Focus your energy towards whatever subject you want to get your teaching certification in...the best teachers are normally the ones who have an actual BA/BS in their subject of interest in addition to a teaching certificate. Also, if your school offers it, try to take some child/teenage development classes.

As for the administrative aspect, most people get into that after years of teaching. Many great administrators put their time in the classroom and work towards administrative graduate degrees while working.

Thanks for the excellent insight.

Also, I'd check out the requirements wherever it is you want to teach...in some states it is legally required that you hold a BA or BS degree in your teaching field (for secondary education, usually).
