Hello,

I really want to go into weapons design. Always been my goal to work at a large weapons firm.

My uncle used to work in that area, and he recommended doing electrical engineering and possibly software engineering. Would double majoring in that area help any?

If you have any other recommendations for weapons design, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

Some places offer EECS. I’d recommend that, or CompEng, or either EE or SoftEng alone with courses in the other.

It wouldn’t help that much. “Weapons firms” look for all types of engineers. It all depends on what type of weapon you want to design and what part of the process you want to be involved in.

I second that “it would not help much”. A weapon is also a system which will have many parts/components to it…some electronic, some software, some mechanical some maybe chemical and definitely some part with a need for materials engineers.

In order to develop that “systems” (read: weapon), you would have several teams: The software lead who is leading the software team, the hardware/electronic team lead with his/her team, etc.

You would be just a member of one of those teams doing a part.
