@sybbie719, for how many years of non-filers tax transcript should I procure if I’m applying for fall 2019 term? Will these transcripts be used during FA verification?
You will still have to go through the verification process because the school will want to know how you are meeting your day to day expenses . Everyone must submit either a IRS transcript or a statement of non-filing (if they did not file taxes in the US).
@sybbie719, the old SAT was out of 2400. SAT redesigned itself after March 2016 and is out of 1600, maximum possible score.
@sybbie719, Non-filers of how many years? I’ll apply for fall 2019. Should I procure for 2019, 18,17,16,15,14? Which year’s???
2018 is not here yet, because this is the 2018 tax year. Taxes for this year will not be filed until 2019.
to be on the safe side get 2016 and 2017
You will be filing a 2019-2020 FAFSA. That will be based on income from 2017. You will need a 2017 non filers statement.
Getting one for 2016 does no harm also.
@kelsmom does his Indian mom need a non-filers statement also? Where she would indicate that she didn’t file because she is not a US citizen, and had no income here?
Mom would not have a SSN, for the IRS to reference. But if she can get one, she should get one using her ITIN (which she would use if she did work and file taxes.
@sybbie719, mom has a SSN which on the card is mentioned as authorized for work only. NCP filed joint returns when parents worked together.
Then she would use that number to get a non-filers statement.
But is really required? Mom’s an Indian so she could have income here too, she could have income literally from anywhere in the world. Actually, doesn’t.
If she has income from India, she must include it on the FAFSA.
You are still going to be verified and your mom will have to show proof of income and how she supports your family day to day.
I didn’t mean she has income from India. What I’m trying to say is there shouldn’t be a need for mom’s Non-filers statement from US IRS. There’s no income, so no proof of income. Can explain the how family being supported question. @kelsmom, is it required?
We are just giving you a list of things the verification might request. A statement of non filing for a CITIZEN is common. Non citizens who live in India are not likely to have filed US taxes, so that wouldn’t be a form requested. If you mother has no income, schools are likely going to want to know how you live. You said relatives pay your expenses. Schools are going to want that info and probably in letter form will be fine.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread. The OP has started a number of similar threads and has received some good advice, which seems remarkable, considering the story keeps evolving. However, I think the topic has been exhausted.
