Hello,
I ahve applied for financial aid and my efc is 7,270 and I plan to attend the University of Michigan. Does anyone know how much I could expect to get from U of M in financial aid? Thanks for the Help

Go to College Board, look up U of M. Click on Financial Aid. See what their estimated total Cost of Attendance is for in/out staters.

Subtract EFC from COA. That's the value of an aid package they might put together if they meet 100% of need. Look to see what % of need they meet.

The aid package will include grants, loans, and probably work study. Look to see what % of grants to loans they typically offer.

google University of Michigan+Common Data Set They should have information about the average financial aid package given to students.

I have some time on my hands -- so I will give it a shot.

I don't know whether you are in-state or out-of-state, so I will run both scenarios

In-state COA (cost of attendance) = $20657
Average need met = 90%
EFC = 7270

so: $20657-7270 = $13387 total demonstrated need. They meet 90%, so you could expect aid to be about $12,050. Of that about $6750 will be grants and $5300 will be in loans and work-study.

In-state COA (cost of attendance) = $20657
Average need met = 90%
EFC = 7270

so: $20657-7270 = $13387 total demonstrated need. They meet 90%, so you could expect aid to be about $12,050. Of that about $6750 will be grants and $5300 will be in loans and work-study.

Out-of-State COA = $40065
EFC = 7270
Average need met = 90%

$40065 - $7270 = $32795 demonstrated need. x 90% = $29515 in aid. of that $16,528 in grants and $13,002 in loans and work study.

I just used the college board figures -- http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=1195&profileId=2

remember that grants and scholarship tend to be used to attract high stats kids and in-state residents, so you package could have alot more loans if you are out-of state.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I am in state and my act is 32 my gpa is 4.0 and i am tied for 1st in a class of 300. I have participated in numerous activities throughout high school. Any modified guesses would be great. Also, when will they tell me what financial aid I would get? I sent in my Fafsa on Feb 1st and I sent in my CSS today. Will they give me a package if I have not sent in my housing deposit yet? I got accepted in November. Thanks a lot for your help.

I think you can expect a good package -- with more grants than loans. this is due to your in-state status and your stats.

at the college board link, it says that:
Non-need-based aid determined by:
Academics
Alumni Affiliation
Art
Athletics
Leadership
Minority Status
Music/Drama
ROTC
Religious Affiliation
State/District Residency

Need-based aid
determined by:
Academics
Alumni Affiliation
Leadership
Minority Status

Call them tomorrow and ask when you should expect your financial aid package.

I was wondering if anyone here has gone to UM in the past with similar stats and what type of package they got?
