Is there anything I can do to help defray the cost of tuition besides look for outside scholarships? By the way, my family can't really pay that much a year, but we can afford $40,000 a year. I feel guilty about spending that much on an undergraduate education, so I'm looking for any financial help possible. What are my options?

Most private schools don't cost all that much more than $40K per year, including room & board, books, and travel. Can you get a job over the summer, possibly 2 part-time jobs? That could net you $3K or so, if you save everything. The unsub Stafford loan program, which is available to students with high EFCs, starts at $2,650 freshman year and goes up to $5K junior and senior years. These should cover it for you.

Good gosh, if your family can fork out $40K a year, then you have no right to be complaining because there is no college in this country that costs anywhere near $80,000 a year.

If you really want to take away outside money from the people like myself who actually need it, then you have no choice but to apply for outside scholarships and dash some poor kid who gets into a great colleges dreams.

I got an EFC of "01731." Is that good? I'm going to the UW in Washington next year.

Ummm...yeah that means your estimated financial contribution is only $1731.

I got a EFC of 0000, how much am i expected to pay?

I enjoy burgers

joev- you always have so much to add to the conversation.

Touche emerald. I have a short attention span and bore easily. Plus being a security guard I have WAAAAY to much free time. My goal ultimatley though is to lighten the mood a little bit.
