EFC and subsidized loan

How low does an EFC need to be to receive a subsized loan?

Sub loan eligibility is determined as follows: COA - EFC - scholarships - grants - work study (if school policy is to award work study before awarding loans) - Perkins loans (if you are lucky enough to score one) = Need for purposes of awarding sub loan. Up to $3500 may be sub for a freshman. If Need is less than $3500, the student would get less sub. If Need is more than $3500, the student still only gets $3500 (because it’s the max).

That said, there is no set EFC … it depends on the COA, the EFC, and any other aid the student brings to the table.

So most likely in this students case, if the the EFC is 7311 and the community college cost is less than $6,000 annually, there is not likely to be a subsidized offer but if the student attended a public university and the cost was $16,000 annually there would likely be a subsidized loan amount offered, correct?

Yes that is right, (assuming there is not other aid that reduces the ‘need’ at the public university, for instance scholarships etc).

Thank you.
