Is there an online EFC calculator for those of us who own and operate our own businesses? All of the ones I've seen say something like

"If your parents have any percentage of ownership of a business or farm, and/or derive any of their income from self-employment or if your natural parents are divorced or separated, this calculator cannot provide an accurate estimate of your financial need."

If you’re a majority owner of a business that employs less than 100 people, then you do not have to include the value of your business on FAFSA.

For schools that require the CSS Profile, there is a supplemental form called the Business/Farm Supplement. This is required if you own your own business, own a farm or have an interest in a partnership.

Thanks for both replies. I guess we’re gonna fill out both the FAFSA and CSSProfile. Son is only a junior and we’re sure yet where he’ll apply.

We have an S-Corp. H is the sole employee. It sounds like we won’t have to list it on the FAFSA, but will on the Profile.

If my family’s income is about $30,000, but my dad is self-employed and we are submitting the Business/Farm Supplement, does it essentially “increase” our income?

In other words, should we be expecting to pay more than what the EFC calculator indicates (since the calculator doesn’t include our business)?
