My school only has an Elementary Education program not simply Education.
Can I be a High School Counselor with such a degree?
It appears most people take some sort of test after getting a Psychology or Education degree but I’m still investigating.

I’m confused. Are you already in college? Or are you referring to the college/university you will be attending in the future?
You can go to the state board of education. The teacher program at a college/univ has to be approved. There are 2 main branches for k-12 teaching: elementary education (k-8) and secondary education (9-12). Some states may offer elementary ed split even further like early elem ed (pre-school-2nd grade) or a separate middle school endorsement.
Your state board of education can tell you what is required to become a license teacher. Some states do require a subject test before student teaching.
@MerryLee Yes I’m already in college. I’m curious if in the state of North Carolina I can be a high school counselor with an elementary education degree. I understand there will be some overlap with that an Education degree.
High school counselors typically get education degrees but I can’t get an Education degree because it is not offered at my school currently.
I found this website. North Carolina School Counselor Association. Maybe you could contact your regional representative (look under NCSCA regions) and they might be able to answer your questions or hopefully point you in the right direction. http://www.ncschoolcounselor.org/
