Has anyone ever participated in either of these programs? Or have you heard anything about their quality? I'm debating whether I should do it over the summer or not. I'm a rising senior, and yet, I haven't studied for the SAT I at all :(

at this point, should I go with the program? or self study like mad?

pray.

and do the blue book

i think the blue book is the best

Honestly I've read that there isn't much prep courses do that you can't learn from a book. The people who take them don't raise their school by more than a few 10 points. They cost a ton and don't usually do anything for you that you can't do yourself.

So I'd say get yourself a blue book (official collegeboard book) and some other prep books and work on it this summer. You can do it you still have plenty of time if you devote yourself to it.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

The prep courses are good for teaching you to write essays.

They teach you a formula that guarantees a 10.

ive been to ELITE boot camp last year. i think it was worth it. it was a bit pricy, but if you just end up 'reading' your way through SAT, the facts you accumulate can slip easily. but in the course, you end up hearing it over and over again so it sorta gets ingrained in your mind.

I would suggest this ONLY if you aren't a strong test taker and you and SAT don't quite fit (like me) no matter how you are good in school work. But still, after ELITE, i had to work my butt off and is still working..

I guess, if you really really devote a lot of time into the course and really really try hard to raise your score in the least amount of time, then it's worth it.

but i wouldn't say that it is a guarantee to a higher score.

ps: i attended ELITE in bangkok, so I don't know the level of quality in the states.

SELF STUDY!
i went to elite (not bootcamp) but the regular 2100 class throughout the year. The teacher was good and knew his stuff, but many times, you don't really need to sit for the whole class (for me, i basically needed CR but had to stay for M & W as well).

for academy, the only way to succeed is to review yourself (basically same as self-studying). My friends who went to Elite Boot Camp had to memorize 2000some words in the course; they didn't review the words continuously and by the test, they forgot.

In general: Academy is good if you're disciplined and review your stuff.

actually, i reread your question and...
since you haven't 'studied' for sat yet, go to elite to get a feel of the test, then self study.
