I was just wondering how people generally feel about Elon. As a student, how would you describe it? I know the stereotype is that everyone's wealthy and preppy, but how true is the stereotype? As a person who is more indie-ish, and less into the frat scene, how many people like me would be present on campus?

I've already been accepted, I'm just wondering how well I would fit in if I decide to attend.

Have you visited? My best advice would be to attend an accepted student day and look at and interact with as many students as possible and see what you think. My son is planning to pledge a frat, but he is not preppy and we are not wealthy. The friends of his that I have met seem to be nice, normal down-to-earth kids. I do believe there are plenty of kids who fit the preppy, wealthy Greek stereotype as well, but only you can decide if the variety of students on campus meshes with your needs.

I’m with you on the more indie, less frat-ish type of person. Have you joined the accepted students group? Tonnnnnnns of great people i’ve met already, many similar to me as well. Ill send you a PM with my FB stuff, if i can…CC has a stupid post req. -.-

Atlas, is the accepted students group on facebook? I can’t seem to find it – what is it called? I’ve been watching for an “Elon 2017” group but haven’t seem that either. I know my D would be interetested in joining.

Yes, it’s called “Elon Class of 2017”. If you would like, send me a PM with her name and I can friend her and add her to the group. It’s excellent networking, I’ve already made tons of new friends, even skyped with two of my good ones! It’s very comforting going to school already knowing a ton of people!

I want to! They look really awesome! Although i’ve traveled places doing service trips took a marine biology trip the last few summers, so i dont know if ill be doing that again this summer! Will you guys be? And i’m assuming you guys are going to march orientation?

Yes we’ll be there in March I think D is going to do Discovery; she’s really excited about it. I love that Elon does that for incoming students.

Are the summer programs discussed at orientation - or is it expected that the student enrolls now (prior to the orientation). Any idea how many students attend? The dates are not ideal for my S’s summer job - however I believe due to a college “obligation” he may be able to work it out. Thanks.

I talked to someone in the Elon admissions office about this yesterday. She said that sign up for the summer programs is available at the spring orientation. She said that often they fill up that weekend, and sometimes there are still a few slots open in May – you just don’t know. She suggested that if you know which one you want to do, it would be a good idea to sign up before the orientation. I did not ask if they discussed it at orientation, or how many go, and I didn’t ask if they filled up at the March orientation of after the April one. I’ve found them to be very friendly and helpful in the admissons office, so don’t be afraid to call and ask.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I have visited once, but I’ll probably want to do it again on one of the “accepted student days” or whatever they’re called. And Atlas, thanks for the Facebook group info. I just requested to join it, so I’ll check it out!
