I talked to my guidance counselor today about applying ED and she told me there is usually an ED agreement you need to fill out, does Elon have one? I started the application and checked ED, all I had to do was type in my name and the date as an agreement…is there anything else I have to do?

xbuddyx3, looking at a printout of my daughter’s online application last year, it looks like she just typed in her name and the date, and we typed in our names and the date, and that was it. I don’t think they have a separate page or form for the agreement, just a section at the bottom of one page, but it does require both the applicant and parent to sign.

Vossron, I don’t want to keep arguing with you or make Elon look bad, but I believe you are giving people a false idea of ED at Elon. I’d refer you to my previous post #9 and Scoutmom’s post #16 above. It’s pretty clear to me that Elon is not one of the colleges in which ED is considered binding only if acceptable FA is provided. I’m sure Elon does their best to meet ED students’ needs, but they do not guarantee that they will be able to meet 100% of every student’s need, and students are considered to be committed to attending Elon regardless of FA when they sign an ED agreement.

We filled out the Early Admission Financial Aid Estimate form shortly after she applied, and received an Estimate letter from Elon in response. (I threw it out after we got the official FA Award letter so I don’t know what date it was sent). I do have our official Financial Aid Award letter, which is dated April 6.

a good indication of the above discussion lies in the numbers…I looked on the common data set but couldnt find them…

Number of ED acceptances that ended up not attending…it may be on college board…

agree with others posting though; I don’t get the impression that ED at Elon is a FA dependent agreement.

Sorry, my #20 has nothing to do with Elon, was in response to #19, “Not an Elon story” which looked like a general “ED is bad” post. :(

xbuddyx3-for the ED agreement I checked the box and my mom and I filled out our electronic signitures on the last page. Nothing else for ED
lafalum84-thank you! and I am glad your daughter seems to be having such a great experience at Elon. What you described sounds exactly like what I am looking for. Did she apply ED?
I understand the negative stuff about ED and Elon in regard to financial stuff, but I’ve also heard that they give decent aid, not that I am counting on that, but just saying that I have heard that too.

Also, I just read the Pendulum atricle lafalum84 posted-anyone know why they are increasing their number of students in the freshman class? I really like Elon’s size, I don’t want it to get any bigger!

mlp2011 - yes, my daughter applied ED. I was a little nervous because it’s so far away from us, but she was sure it was the right place for her. Their class size is only increasing a very small amount. They had 1360 freshmen this year, so 1400 isn’t much of an increase, only about 3%.

vossron, sorry - now I see what you were saying about other colleges’ ED… it makes sense.

I’ve heard Elon puts a lot of emphasis on demonstrated intrest…I had planned on visiting over the summer but due to a family emergency was unable to do so. I did, however, attend an Evening With Elon, do they keep record of who attends those sessions & will they know I attended when they read my application?

xbuddyx3, if you’re applying binding Early Decision, that should demonstrate plenty of interest! But I think if you registered for the Evening with Elon and signed in when you got there, they should have that info.

buddy: so let me get this straight; you are applying ED and you haven’t visited the school? do you think you could possibly get down there for the Oct 30th open house?..

I guess I’ve been on CC too long; can’t imagine applying ED anywhere you haven’t visited yet…even a school that “runs like butter”…

yes, I will be attending the open house but not on October 30th, but Nov. 20th.
I have been on campus, I have a friend attending Elon right now but haven’t gone for a “formal tour” if that makes sense.
