If you click on the help link for the ID field, it says something about a "SIS" prefix. Ignore it. It worked fine for me using what I got on my bill.

Also, READ ALL THE POLICIES they show you. They're important.

Brown doesn't care about pornography. The only thing Brown doesn't want you to do is violate copyright/spy/steal/etc. That's a really good thing for all the guys out there (myself included)... haha.

I don't quite understand. Can we still use illegal share software if we don't use a brown email address when we sign up for said software programs...? I need my free music. And I heard somewhere that there is a way to see who your roommate is through your Brown email....? Has anyone heard of this? And...lol, did anyone else freak out when you got the bill with your Brown id - as in not immediately knowing that the financial aid is not really calculated in the bill we most recently received. For 2 minutes of sincere panic I thought Brown was expecting me to pay $26,000.

Don't worry too much about what software is on your computers, so long as stuff like Bittorrent clients and Kazaa and the like aren't running 24/7. Basically just don't do A LOT of downloading or uploading, although in a perfect world, CIS wouldn't even want even a little bit.

They give you two user IDs, and sometimes gets confusing. The NetID is the one with the _ in it. That's your email username. The AuthID (i think) is the shorter one.

The thing with the illegal music stuff is that Brown doesn't actively monitor it. Brown will, however, take action if it is brought to their attention by the authorities (the chances of which are slim).

can anyone tell me who has to be contacted if you want your id to set up your email...i'm a deferred student and i don't think i'll be getting my id this year but i want to ask anyway...
thanks.
